Description of Duties:

 

  1. Testing of normal access circuits reported by any customers other than CNC (customer network care) clients. Normal 9k6 ; 48k ; 64k access circuits and N X circuits up to 2 meg. This would be done by running BERT tests to various loops on the access circuits and localising where the errors are occuring. Special Investigations of problimatic circuits where clients have been experiencing more than 4 faults in 1 month thereby dealing with the client until all problems have been solved.
  2. Analysing of protocols in order to ascertain problimatic areas using a Hewlett Packard internet advisor. Doing Lan and Wan monitoring of various WANS such as Frame Relay , X25 , ISDN, Sync PPP , Async PPP , SNA , ATM , HDLC all at layer 3 of the OSI. This would be done on various network devices ie : Cisco and Bay Networks. Compiling reports on the outcome of the analysis for the customer exporting the csv values into a software package called Reporter for Excel and interpreting this for the customer thereby pointing out the problimatic areas to the customer.
  1. 2nd level support for CNC (Customer Network Care ) clients. Implementation of Cisco routers and fault finding on customers networks ie: Slow responses ; errors over the WAN , sites not responding etc. Networks are monitored by 1st levels via HP Openview and the 2nd levels assist in whatever problems may be occuring , be it slow responses or over untilisation of Permanent Virtual Circuits in our Frame Relay cloud, resulting in the upgrading of a PVC and/or access circuit bandwidth been inadequate or errors on the access circuit. We would do whatever it takes in order to obtain suitable comms again.
  2. Compiling reports from Customer networks obtained from Network Health Stats from polled routers via the SNMP traps. Every month this would mean presenting this report to IT managers at monthly meetings and interpreting the various problem areas such as Router CPU problems and bandwidth problems. Service Level agreements have to be met.

5. A particular network is made up of Cisco Routers (3600,2500 and 1600) and makes use of Frame Relay and Diginet point to point sites. The routed protocol IP and , the routing protocol used on the network is Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) for IP. The media type on the LAN is UTP. The physical topology on the LAN is STAR and logical topology is bus. Vines has been completely removed from the network
